Boho FUSIONS & EZMiter

The Jean Jacket Quit

The Jean Jacket Quit

I just made a quilt that has the fit and feel of a jean jacket! It's perfect for sitting on the three seasons porch watching the sun set over Lake Monona. I made the Jean Jacket Quilt using a mitered quilt-as-you-go technique and acrylic template I designed that I'm calling "EZMiter."

Boho Fusions by Art Gallery Fabrics.

I also used a new micro-fabric line by Art Gallery Fabrics, some coordinating solids from their AGF Elements, as well as three of their Solid Textured Denims: Bluebottle Field, Canyon Sunset, and Scarlet Brick. AGF just released FUSIONS, a small collection of prints from a variety of their designers arranged into conceptual themes. One of the FUSIONS is this Boho FUSIONS, and it is perfect for me in every way. I was so excited when my friend Mathew of Mister Domestic asked me to join a party of makers showcasing FUSIONS and another new collection of small lines called CAPSULES.

My Jean Jacket Quilt measures 45" x 66" and is made up of 108 EZMiter blocks. These blocks are comprised of a solid textured denim which serves as both front block border and backing. In each block center is a 5 inch square of Boho FUSIONS prints and coordinating AGF Elements. They are joined quilt-as-you-go style and appliqued down. To maximize the denim, I used raw edge applique so that it will fray over time. (If I were using a quilting cotton, I would have hemmed each block before appliqueing. But that's a story for another day...)

The back is pretty dang cool, too.

I am in absolute love with how much fun it was to sew this quilt. The EZMiter template I made worked so well! I got mitered borders on all my blocks without the math or waste, and I was able to quilt it on my domestic machine as I went along. This is the most fun I've had sewing anything. Ever. Which is fitting for a sewing party, especially one hosted by Mister Domestic!

This photo I texted Mathew of an abandoned layout, to which he said "No, use this layout!" Good advice. Some more good advice: always take photos, and always ask friends for input!

In a few weeks, I'll be sharing how you can get an EZMiter template and patterns to try this out for yourself! Until then I will be trying out a few different EZMiter projects so I know just how to explain it all to you.

My very favorite print in this line. The colors are everything. That turquoise!
