Weave Your Jacket Round Up!
I recently taught some students how to weave into their jackets in a Weave Your Jacket class at Blue Bar Quilts. During class I showed photos of work I’ve seen on Instagram. So I thought it would be fun to do a quick round up here on the blog.
If you’d like to make your own woven jacket, grab a second hand or old denim jacket, some scraps of fabric, a set of WEFTY Needles, and pull up the free tutorial Weave Your Jacket !
My favorite way to weave into a jacket is with 1/2 inch strips, but it’s not the only way. Here is Kerry Foster’s (@pennydog) jean jacket she wove using 1 inch finished strips. In her Instagram post showing her finished woven jacket, Kerry gave special thanks to her zipper foot for its service during this project.
My instructions in my tutorial say to cut strips into the back of the jacket and weave into that, essentially making the jean jacket your first layer. But sometimes a woman’s gotta march to the beat of her own drum, so Laura Piland of @sliceofpiequilts just cut out the entire back of her jacket and did her own dang thing. You can read about it on her blog here.
Then we have the tried and true tutorial followers who did as God and Tara intended.
Check out the movement in Brenda Steurer’s (@brendancin) jacket!
Maria of @madam_tailor woven into her little girl’s jacket and it’s about as cute as those pig-tails!
Molly took my very first weaving class way back when I lived on the Eastside of Seattle and the weave in her jacket is so fresh and exciting!
Gayle of @morethyme2sew knocked it out of the park by getting her hair done and then literally going to the park for a photo shoot in her stunning woven jacket. She’s so fancy!
Make sure to keep an eye on the #weaveyourjacket hashtag on Instagram so you never miss out on a new woven jacket masterpiece. Better yet, create one of your own using my tutorial and post it so we can bask in its splendor!
Thanks for reading and let me know in the comments below how many times I used the word “jacket” during this blog post. I hope whatever you’re working on it’s meaningful and rewarding!
